UrDreamPlanner's Wednesday Knowledge: Sage & Time Designs!

Today, on the UrDreamPlanner blog, we bring you some knowledge from the amazing Mary Shannon Hernandez of Sage & Time Designs. Enjoy! :-D

Set the Tone of Your Event with Stylized Stationery

It’s time to ditch drab stationery, once and for all!  Event stationery should be eye-catching, unique to YOUR event, and set the tone for your guests.

Consider this custom-made blinged out baby carriage invitation.  Upon opening this piece of mail, what message is conveyed automatically, to you as a guest?  If you are thinking, the person who sent this to you loves sparkle, and bling, is proud to announce their baby girl to the world, and might be a little obsessed with all shades purple, you are right!

Not all custom stationery has to be sealed in the confines of an envelope.  This is one of the great aspects of working with a custom designer.  If you would like to be a little more edgy and non-traditional, or make a bold statement, how about using a box mailer?  This invitation was designed with one purpose in mind--it’s party time!  For this design, we used pink and green polka dots to convey the festive atmosphere for this newly engaged couples’ outdoor BBQ party. Coordinating polka-dot ribbon and pink raffia shreds covered the invite so it really felt like guests were opening a present when they received their invitation in a box.

This wedding invitations oozes elegance, royal, and sophistication.  Sage & Time Designs worked closely with this client to incorporate precise detail into the design.  From the single feather, to the rich hues of gold, deep purple, and teal, right up to the hand-lined envelopes, this invitation suite conveyed the wedding tone from the very beginning.

M. Shannon Hernandez, owner and designer of Sage & Time Designs, is a stationery designer in Brooklyn, New York.  She works closely with clients and event planners across the world to design handcrafted and custom stationery for their personal and social lives.  All products are handcrafted and designed specifically for each client, ensuring truly unique and customized products which help set the tone for the important events in our lives.  You can learn more about Shannon on the Sage & Time Designs blog, on Facebook at Sage & Time Designs, and Twitter @SageTimeDesigns.

Thank you Shannon for being a guest blogger today!

UrDreamPlanner's Monday Inspiration: Celebration Food!

It's Monday and I don't know about you, but I love to be inspired! I get inspired by life! A smell, sound, just seeing something beautiful, can spark a bit of inspiration up in me. One thing that can always inspire me is, FOOD!!! Yes, I love food! Besides being a very picky eater and allergic to the entire nut family, milk and chocolate...I LOVE TO EAT! So today's inspirational post is about food!! And not just any food, but food that guests dream about when attending a wedding or event!

Celebration Food!
Celebration Food is what I like to describe as "fun and tasty" food that you eat at weddings & events.

As a guest, you have two expectations:

-Expectation #1: You are expecting it to not taste like your basic "wedding" or basic "party" foods. (Guests want to walk into a room and see decorated tables. A nice spread of something delicious. They don't want to eat basic turkey and gravy. Guests come seeking Filet Mignon topped with mashed potatoes that look like a flower and dressed with baby carrots & asparagus in some amazing sauce! Or at least something equally fancy and yummy.)

-Expectation #2: You are expecting to leave full! (When attending a wedding or event, guests expect to eat! The "Celebration Food" is the highlight of the morning, afternoon or evening. Be prepared to feed your guests because they came hungry. Don't scare your guests, with food that looks so foreign you end up wasting your money because everyone just picks over their food. Give your guests familiar options, so they can actually enjoy the food!! Food makes guests happy, and happy guests dance, take pictures and rave about your wedding or event!)

When deciding what food to serve to your guests, think about their common likes and dislikes. Consider any allergies and diet restrictions. Guests are coming to celebrate you, as you are the guest of honor. However, you as the guests of honor should treat your guests like royalty AND royalty eats well!! So get inspired by the guests you invited and make sure the "Celebration Food" is fun and tasty!!

Be Inspired!

Talk To Me:
What is your experience with "Celebration Food" when attending a wedding or event? Rate it on a scale of 1-10, was is it excellent(10) or horrible(1)?  What is your favorite food to see when attending a wedding or event? Share your stories below in the comment section!! :-D

4 Ways to Keep the LOVE Alive!

Happy #WeddingWednesday to you all!! Today's post is all about keeping the love alive while planning your wedding! Planning a wedding is a tedious process that can take a toll on any engaged couple. As you plan you want to assure that you are not at each others throat about florals, cake, colors, guest list etc. Instead you want to make sure you keep the love alive by spending quality time together outside of wedding planning!

4 Way to Keep the LOVE Alive!
1. Assign 1 day every week to go out..whether you go to breakfast, lunch or dinner...enjoy a meal together! Take an hour or two and discuss life not wedding plans.

2. Dress sexy..ladies keep your hair, nails & toes done..and fellas keep your hair cut and cologne on..Remember that the person you're about to marry is a person that you are also attracted to..so keep the spark alive!

3. Go on a fun date! Mini Golf, Couple Spa, Weekend getaway to Disney...something that will make you laugh and grow as a couple and take your mind off all the wedding day planning.

4. Say I LOVE YOU! Often times you get so caught up in life that you're not saying or showing how much you love that person. So leave a little note, send a text, make a quick call, etc. Tell your fiance you love them. I guarantee it will put a smile on their face! :-D

These 4 suggestions are things that are simple, yet make such a bug difference in a relationship. These above 4 tips although simple are things that we forget to do. In a relationship when so much is happening like planning a wedding..it is the simple and sweet moments that will help to keep the love alive and the planning a lot more easy going and fun!!

Do you have any activities that you do/did to Keep the LOVE alive while planning your wedding?? Please Share in the comments section!!

Inspiration Comes to Life: Wedding Planning!

Getting married is a great part of life! It includes two people who are truly in love bringing two families together to share in their special occasion. Inspiration comes in all forms. It can transpire from just seeing a color, shape, design etc or it can evolve based off an initial vision.

On October 3, 2010 a year ago today Beautiful Beyond Dreams, LLC had the luxury of planning a fall wedding! Inspiration was flowing throughout the whole process. As I was going through pictures I found the Inspiration cake photo and wanted to give you a before and after of the cake this couple used for their wedding.

Jennifer & Mike wanted a fall wedding and loved the clean white look of a cake but wanted the deep fall colors to be displayed in their cake. We viewed many pictures of different styles and shapes of cakes.

This is what they fell in love with...

The cake Mike & Jennifer selected was done by DiBartolo Bakery in Collingswood, NJ located on Haddon Ave. The flowers were purchased from Michael's Craft Store. It was smaller since their wedding was being shared with 75 of their closest friends & family members. The cake brought a nice finish to all the detail that went into the reception decor!

Happy 1 Year Anniversary Mr & Mrs Michael & Jennifer Robinson! So happy to have been able to share in your special day..wishing you many many more years of love and happiness! :-D
~Brittany Allen, Beautiful Beyond Dreams, LLC

What has inspired you during the planning process?? How did you incorporate it into your wedding day?? Do Share!! :-)

{Tuesday's Insight}::A Real Wedding:Golf/Salsa Love!!

Beautiful Beyond Dreams, LLC is a Facebook member of NNJWEP. Thanks to this awesome group we received the opportunity to work with an amazing couple who got married in June! Meeting with Norma & Bryan for the first time was refreshing as they shared their vision and very detailed planning book. Hearing about their combination of golf/salsa love made this wedding even more exciting. It was a real pleasure to get to know them!

Beautiful Beyond Dreams, LLC was Norma & Bryan Lewis Day of Coordinator for their wedding/reception which took place in Absecon & Little Egg Harbor Township on June 10, 2011. The Sea Oaks Country Club did an excellent job assuring that everything was up to par for the couples special day.

Everything looked stunning on their wedding day including the flowers and stationary!

Florist: Betina's Garden    Stationary: Pinkberry Designs

Mrs Norma Lewis had two amazing dresses. Dress one showcased a beautiful customized veil and dress two turned up the heat and allowed her and her new hubby to enjoy the salsa band,"Tipica Novel" that had the guests up on their feet! Norma looked absolutely stunning all day and night!!

Mr & Mrs Norma & Bryan Lewis did a great job finding professional wedding vendors to make their day memorable. We at Beautiful Beyond Dreams, LLC also had a great time working with this collaborative team that came together to make Mr & Mrs Lewis day awesome!!

Hair: Carlos Sanchez- 718-596-0201

::UrDreamPlanner Grant::

The word "Love", has a strong meaning in my heart. Maybe it's experiencing it first hand what it feels like to be loved and in love or maybe it's the feeling I get when I see other couples having their first dance gazing into each other's eyes with love! I truly believe it is combination of both that makes me love, LOVE!

As the owner of Beautiful Beyond Dreams, LLC I gave myself the mission from the start to create dream weddings for couples who truly cannot afford it. ::Vintage, Tattoos, Cakes, Colors & Details::

Although the weather may not feel like it, it is Spring and weddings are happening every weekend!! As I notice all the beautiful weddings and read through several wedding groups that I am apart of I noticed a few wedding trends that are quite charming! The following wedding trends have been spotted to be some of the most popular for the Spring and Summer Weddings!!

Vintage Dresses Are In!
Over the past couple of months you have seen Brides showcasing gorgeous lace wedding dresses and birdcage veils! The old Hollywood look has captured the hearts of many couples and have been expressed beautifully through many great photographers. The Red lip also gives off a sultry, sexy look that is worn in quite a few different shades!

Expressing Personality Through Tattoos!
A lot of brides are no longer hiding their tattoos, instead they are happily showing them off! This trend of tattoos may not be approved by all, but it doesn't matter since weddings are fabulous because it is the time to express your personality! Tattoos are worn or covered also depending on the style of the wedding. Tattoos can be covered up with makeup and should be done at least one time before the wedding day to know how long it will take and what make-up will work best with your skin tone.

Mini Cakes are cute and unique!
Cake is a big feature of the wedding that many guests look forward too! Although you still have your beautiful 5 & 6 tier wedding cakes, I am seeing a lot more cute, personalized wedding cakes that may or may not be set-up with cupcakes. You will see 2 to 4 mini cakes depending on the guests and style of the wedding. These cakes come in so many different forms, each one is truly unique!!

Neutral Tones on the Groom's Side!
Spring is here and aside from the light colors of the season, in weddings neutral colors are seen a lot more during this time of the year. The Groomsmen are being seen in a lot of Khaki, Light Blue, and Grey tuxes and are using accent colors of yellow, green, light purple, peaches, and soft pinks!

Personalization!
Couples getting married are loving the trend of personalized items. From the aisle runner, to the favors, hangers, chair covers, and even refrigerators (yup!), you can easily tell who's wedding your at. Wedding Pro's are making it affordable for couples to get the look they want and truly make it their own! It's no longer just {Mr. & Mrs. Jones July 3, 2002}...now you can have your very own logo or tag line created along with pictures and more!!
www.Ten23designs.com

Whatever trend you may be following or not following, be sure that your wedding expresses who you are as a couple! After all, the key is to only get married once and you want that day to be special and unique!!

Really?? or Really!!

The Wedding of Prince Williams & Sweet Kate has been the talk of the country since last year. As it soon approaches we, the people; get a little more insight of how things are going to be and all the special details going into their wedding day. Commemorative items have been around for centuries as a nice way to rememeber a wonderful individual or unqiue couple.

Not to say that Prince Williams and Sweet Kate aren't special and shouldn't have their own unique item...but check out this commemorative item provided by the company GE.

Does it make you go Really?? or Really!!

I don't know about you but I wouldn't want this in my kitchen. However, what if it was a picture that could be put on to your own fridge at your own home. A customized picture of you and your hunny-bunny all happy remembering your wedding day! Would you buy this for your home?? How much would you be willing to pay??

Something to think about!!

Everyone Has A Choice!

Hello my fellow blogger's! I have pondered heavily about what I am about to post today. I've been in conversation with Wedding Pros and Non-Wedding Pros on this topic that I am about to present to you. I am writing this because it has been on my heart and I felt guilty about doing something that I believed in and I needed to share. I am prepared for some to agree with me and for many to not agree with me at all. But in the end Everyone Has A Choice!

Last month I received an inquiry to plan a same-sex Day of Coordination Wedding. I looked at the email as I knew what my response was going to be without even thinking twice....I Cannot do it. I thought long and hard on the most respectful and professional way to respond so that I do not offend anyone or be caught discriminating another person.
The whole scenario went something like this:
Good Evening,
My partner, (.....) and I, are looking to hire a Day-of coordinator for our civil union ceremony scheduled to take place in (...) on (....).

Sincerely,
(....)

My response went like this:
Hi (...),
I regret to inform you that (...) does not plan civil union ceremonies. I wish you and your significant other much luck finding the right planner.

Sincerely,
(...)

She kindly replied "Thank you" and we both went on with our lives. I thought over and over, did I reply correctly, was I offensive, should I have lied and just said I wasn't available??? I began to feel bad, but then let it go and thought it is okay. Yesterday however, the subject of not completing a service due to religious belief arose and so I thought about this couple. After being called judgmental and rude and unprofessional I really began to think..Oh No..What have I done? Did I really discriminate against this couple by being honest! Again, my thought on this whole thing is that "Every Has A Choice"!

So after a long day of ongoing conversation with Wedding Pros and Non-Wedding Pros, I felt horrible and just had to email this young lady back and apologize for offending her. Which went like this:
Hi (...),
I just wanted to write to you and say sorry if I offended you and your Fiance (...) in any way. That truly was not my intentions. I was speaking with a group of wedding pros and it made me think of you. So again, I am truly sorry if my response was offensive in any way. I hope your planning process has been fulfilling and stress-free!

Sincerely,
(...)

She replied back..
Hello (...),
Thank you very much for reaching out, but your comments were not offensive at all...just honest (which we can appreciate).  Planning has been great and we have found a planner that suits our needs.  Thanks again for your concern and sincerity.

  (...) and(...)
After getting her repsonse, I felt absolutely relieved..it was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders!!

So I say all this to say that "Everyone Has A Choice" In my opinon. I have to live by what I belive and if the law doesn't agree unfortunately I have to take that chance because the truth is I live for God and God is who I have to answer to at the end of the day. I truly do hope that I never experience a lawsuit or anything similar due to my religious beliefs.

Everyone has A Choice..You have A choice...your not a bad person for saying no, just make sure you refer that indivudal to someone who can help. That is what I feel was my biggest mistake, not providing a referral. I have definitely learned a lot about myself going through this. I am happy that I can stand firm in my belief and be able to live with the consequences..whatever they may be.
For I am a child of God and I live by his rules!

Feel free to post how you feel on this topic. Again, Everyone has A Choice and even more Everyone will not agree with your choice. You have to make the decision to decide if you will follow your belief or follow the law.

This was not written to offend anyone or to put anyone on trial, etc. It was just a personal experience that I felt I should share with others who may have gone through something similar.

Are you Following the Law: Internships??

The Wedding Industry is a hard one to get into and stay in, if you want a successful business. Many professionals recommend an Internship at a leading company, some place that you can gain real experience and decide if this really is the career choice for you! If you have ever done an Internship, you will know that 90% of the time when Wedding/ Event related they are for college credit, or "Non-Paid aka Free". You will find the good companies that will feed you and help with your gas and there are also companies who won't. You have to find one that works for you and give you the best experience and knowledge. Most Wedding/ Event related internships last anywhere from 3 months to 1 year.

This blog post is for both the Employer & the Intern! Follow the link to find out if your following the Fair labor Standards Act Advisor!

Love Bite #6: Wedding Scriptures!

Today I want to share with you some Wedding Scriptures. I believe that God should be #1 in all relationships, especially Marriage. I hope you enjoy!

Love Bite #6: Wedding Scriptures!

Ephesians 5:22-33 KJV
(Paul compares Christ's love for the church with the love a groom should have for his bride.)

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

 Colossians 3:12-17 KJV
(Paul wraps up how a husband and wife should treat each other. This is a passage about love and forgiveness, which is very  important in a marriage.)

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Flash Mob Wedding

I had to share this on my blog, because I love LOVE!! Watching this video actually made me tear up :-)

I think this is so sweet and a super creative and budget-friendly way to get married! I would of loved to hear their vows, but you could really see how sincere they both were. They had their parents and close friends(from what I can tell) and lot's of support from the mall viewers.

I loved this video!
Watch and share with others!!

In love with LOVE,

Wedding Planning Tip

You have gotten engaged and now have set a date! It is time to find the perfect group of vendors to make sure your day goes smoothly! When selecting vendors for the Big Day be sure to:
  • Bring a list of questions to ask.
  • Clearly state what you are looking for.
  • Be honest about your budget.
  • Leave knowing that you will be able to get what you want and need for your set budget.

Once you meet with several vendors and find the one's that you love, be prepared to put a deposit down anywhere from 15% to 50% to secure your date. You will not be able to pick everyone so be sure to call back or email the other vendors who did not make the cut and let them know.

Happy Planning,

Sunday, January 2, 2011
